Welcome friends. This is a new blog for me (us???) I hope it becomes an us…
I’ve been thinking for some time that I want to start contributing to a different conversation than the one that takes place on my other blog, potterdad. (Don’t worry, I’m not quitting that one…) But I am hoping that the things shared in this space will be about something a little broader – our communities, faith, friends, our life together, our spiritual journeys — all these things. I am also hoping that it is a place where we can be honest about our struggles and our joys, where we can support each other and celebrate.
As the title suggests, its about connecting with our fellow brothers and sisters and seeing where we are going on this journey called life. So grab a hand and let’s see what’s around the bend — together.

Hi, Duane,
Thanks for the invite to post something. I got a handle, exacademe, because that’s what I am going to be soon: ex academe, out of the academy. I am going to start my own blog there to deal with some of the detox of that process.
My first post, after introducing myself, will deal with my objection to a speaker, William Abraham, Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University that my faculty colleagues is bringing in for a lecture series. The speaker wrote the argument in favor of discriminating against GLBT persons in the United Methodist Church.
I have written strenuously in opposition of having Abraham on our campus to bring lectures under the theme, “The Bible, Evangelicals, and Liberals: Beyond the Impasse.” The three lectures are, “The Authority of Scripture and the Birth of Biblical Theology,” “Evangelicals and the Authority of Scripture,” “Upward and Onward beyond the Authority of Scripture.”
My colleague, David Watson, studied with Abraham. David admonished me to remember that Abraham is more than one issue (his position contra-homosexual). I would like to post my first email to my faculty colleagues, David’s response to me, and my response back to all of the teaching faculty.
I will continue on my blog, with my next bit of writing that is taking shape as more or less an academic paper. I guess the detox is going to take a long while and a lot of words.
Peace,
Anne
oops, ok, so my handle is “exacademe,” but my blog title is actually “Academic Detox.”

I am glad you are using this type of forum — both on this blog and your new personal blog as a way to sort thru some of these tough issues. We will be interested in listening to your thoughts as you make this journey. Thank you for being willing to challenge the systemic injustices.
